Causes of infertility

Firstly, the list of the causes of infertility following is not meant to shock you with all the things that may possibly be wrong! Once you’ve looked at the list you might start to marvel at how any babies are still born naturally! I’m just trying to help you be educated about what to expect. Being informed is so very important when it comes to your medical care, because then you know what your alternatives are. So, the list below of the causes of infertility is to help you do just that.

Men and women:

· Lubricant – Yes, that’s what I said, lubricant. If you use lubricant, just make sure that your brand isn’t unpleasant for sperm. Raising your fertility could be as easy as choosing another brand!

· Drugs – Your fertility might be negatively affected by a large number of substances including alcohol, recreational drugs, prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, tobacco and caffeine.

· Stress – You must be aware of when you’re ovulating to plan intercourse correctly, but if your cycle is mixed up due to tension that could make things a little more difficult.

· Timing – Timing may be the answer! Try to determine when the lady is ovulating and you’ll vastly improve your chances of conceiving!

· Weight – For guys, being obese won’t help; and for the ladies being obese or too skinny can damage your ability to get pregnant.

· Hormones – Nonstandard hormone quantities (too much or too little) could cause conditions like PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).

· Scarring – Previous abdominal surgery might result in scarring which could compromise fertility. Various infections can also cause scarring and fibroids can have the same result as scars.

· Position – Unless you’re orbiting the earth having intercourse while standing is unhelpful as the poor lads have to swim against gravity. Give the man a chance to be on top.

· Illnesses – STDs and other illnesses can impact your fertility negatively so have those seen to.

· Organs etc. – Essentially this is a ‘hardware’ problem where one or other cavity, tube or appendage isn’t working properly. For the guys this may include problems such as erectile dysfunction, for the ladies it may include conditions such as fibroids or endometriosis.

· Immune system issues – Sometimes the woman’s system is unreceptive to sperm and regards them as dangerous trespassers. Before you get stuck-up, the man’s system sometimes destroys his own sperm too!

Girls only:

· Age – After 35 the quality and [number] of your eggs goes down quite rapidly.

· Abnormal cervical mucus – To be able to conceive the mucus produced by the cervix must be the right consistency and there must be enough of it.

· Premature menopause – This is where the body stops releasing eggs prior to 40 and could be caused by eating disorders or too much exercise.

Men only:

· Sperm – Who knew the tiny chaps could cause such a huge problem? If there aren’t sufficient sperm or they aren’t sturdy enough or able to move well then obviously fertility will be compromised.

· Prostate infections – May also bring about infertility.

· Testes – If the testes are not completely developed, if they haven’t dropped, or if they have been harmed then you could have problems with infertility.

· Variococele – Sperm die of overheating when the veins in the scrotum are too large.

· Retrograde ejaculation – This is where the sperm go into the bladder rather than out the usual channel.

· Illnesses – Male infertility could also be caused by illnesses like kidney disease, mumps or cystic fibrosis.

· Environmental pollutants – Toxins like pesticides and chemicals released by plastic that is degrading could harm sperm count and condition.

· Tight Undies – Close-fitting undies can lower your sperm count ‘cos the sperm get too hot.

As I said before, this list is not meant to alarm you, but to assist you. Once you understand the causes of infertility you can figure out what step to take next.
